Pincay arrived in the United States in 1966 and continued to impress with his riding abilities. He rode his first winner at Hollywood Park in California and soon gained a reputation for his strong work ethic and natural talent. Pincay's success was not limited to a particular type of race; he excelled in both dirt and turf races, as well as sprint and long-distance events.

Record-Breaking Career

Throughout his career, Pincay amassed an incredible number of victories. In 1970, he became the first jockey to win seven races in a single day at California's famed Santa Anita Park. His remarkable achievement earned him the nickname "The Magic Man." Pincay's career reached new heights in 1999 when he surpassed the record set by legendary jockey Bill Shoemaker by achieving his 8,834th career win, making him the winningest jockey in history at the time.

Major Wins and Achievements

Pincay won a multitude of prestigious races, including the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, Preakness Stakes, and the Breeders' Cup. He was the regular rider for many top horses, including Affirmed, the last Triple Crown winner before American Pharoah in 2015. Pincay's ability to form successful partnerships with various trainers and horses showcased his versatility and adaptability as a jockey.

Retirement and Legacy

Laffit Pincay Jr. retired from professional racing in 2003, concluding a remarkable career that spanned 39 years. Throughout his tenure, he accumulated numerous honors, including induction into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1975. Pincay's style, grace, and consistency on the track made him a beloved figure in horse racing and a role model for aspiring jockeys.
